Although the production of print-based magazines are still ongoing, the magazine publishing industry are struggling to combat the waves of new technology that are slowly making print-based magazine obselete. Because of technology, many of the magazine titles that were loved have crashed and dissapeared from the market due to lack of sales, or readership. This is such that even the publishing companies are collapsing under the demand for profit which has now lead to there only being a few iconic leading companies in the magazine publishing world, these slowly dominating over the smaller industries and adding to their own libraries.
The internet has opened up the option for online magazines but without the once easily achieved profit from the sales of the paper based product the publishers are having to rely on luring the audience into either subscribing to online editions or subscribing online for a regular printed edition. The only other way for the publishing institutions to make the money in profit is too focus on advertising. However, with the lack of readership becoming apparent in the magazine industry, advertising oppurtunities do not seem as appealing as they once had to possible companies trying to market their products
